ANOTHER RESTORATION SAGA ABOUT TO UNFOLD ???

Look what's for sale . . . a neighbor is selling their 1941 Dodge WWII Ambulance WC27 1/2 ton. There is absolutely NO rust around the windshield and windshield frame (need to replace the glass though). The rear panel is painted black (no, that's NOT a cut-out).

This vehicle was purchased by an Arizona company who completely rebuilt it and installed a 100% self-guided automated computerized piloting system . . . the vehicle competed in the US Government's D.A.R.P.A. competition in 2005.

For photos of the restored vehicle for D.A.R.P.A., see go to: http://www.sami.us/

That's a rebuilt Dodge T215 L-6 engine; the 230ci cranks out a whopping 92hp. Top allowable speed is 56 mph; gas mileage is 12 mpg. At least it has been converted to 12 volts. Crossing streams? . . . no problem, it has a fording depth of 32" (that's a lot of water). Posted by Hello

Ah yes, a nice NON-synchro 4 speed (I guess I'll have to double-clutch or else grind the gears). Rear axle is a 4.89:1 gear ratio. That's a 1 speed transfer case; the parking brake operates by clutching the drive shaft!  Posted by Hello

The rear interior is in pretty fair shape. Both rear doors are in great shape . . . the truck even comes with 1 spare rear door! Posted by Hello

The cab interior is in pretty fair shape; looks like the original bucket seats are there. However, the steering wheel has been changed out. Posted by Hello
